I got one of these tortoise at a snake and reptile show. Didn't know when I got it what breed it was and how to care for it. What became immediately clear was that it WAS NOT the simple box tortoise I was used to as a kid that roamed around outside. These tortoises cost a lot to maintain. They don't eat just anything! And their creature comforts have to be attended to frequently (hourly). This book helped tremendously.
Good basic starter information, but it's pretty out of date. There are alot of new requirements needed for raising sulcatas. If your looking to raise torts, check out tortoiseforum.com, there are alot of experienced people on there willing to help.
This is a great book! We've had tortoises for years, and I had waited a long time to buy this book. Wish I'd gotten it earlier! Fun to read, but also very useable, necessary information organized in a great, way to read. A must have if you're even considering owning a Sulcata! Thanks, Dave in Colorado!
