Well written, clear, easy to understand practical advice
The second edition of Financial Independence (Getting to Point X) is a map to your own personal treasure! It's filled with real-life practical strategies for managing your finances that are both easy-to-read and interesting. I can honestly say I have learned more about finances by reading this book than I did in any economics class in high school or college.I had read the first edition of Financial Independence, and this edition is refreshed with new content, including a new chapter on starting your own business. Perhaps the most valuable addition was the clearly laid out interpretations of Trump's new tax law embedded into every chapter. So soon after its implementation, it is nearly impossible to find another book so jam-packed with tips to navigate this subject that is confusing to the average American.Buy this book, and you'll have your own personal financial advisor and CPA right in your library! No regrets here!
I received this as a gift. I've been reading through the book and am amazed at how much information is contained within its pages, and how you do not need a degree in finances to understand the concepts. Much of the information is common sense clearly spelled out along with professional advice on how to maximize every dollar earned. I highly recommend this book.
This book provides a comprehensive roadmap for creating and executing on an investment plan. It also wisely incorporates tax planning - since that makes a serious impact on investment returns. Finally, includes some of the latest academic thinking on investments. Overall, this book is invaluable for clients and advisors.
The second addition both confirms the strategies Mr. Vento wrote in his first also but adds crucial information regarding the the new tax law and its impact on my portfolio. After finishing the book, I revisited my budget and spending habits and made some changes based on the additional advice offered by Mr. Vento. As a single 72 year old woman, "Getting to Point X" provided a concise roadmap toward a financial plan that gave me a clear picture of my retirement needs now and for the future.
John Vento's new book is a great way to become educated on financial matters. Before reading this book these issues were very complex, but after I was able to understand all of the wealth management topics and the tax implications for each topic. Taxes are very complex and this book will help you understand how to take advantage of the new tax laws. Highly recommend this book for everyone - a must read!

It is a must read for elder planning for people like me in their sixties and at the same time it carries important strategies for saving money for college tuition and starting your own business.
