This book is relevant for all ages -- not just 20 year olds. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a spark of innovation and reminder to keep thinking differently. Here's a conversation with my 10 year old daughter last night:me: No kindle tonight before bed, it's too late.dd: But I'm reading this really interesting book.me: What book?dd: It's about this Stanford professor who does these really interesting things with her students. Makes them think about problems differently.me: What's the name of it?dd: What I wish I knew when I was 20. Can I keep reading?(I have multiple kindles and so when I downloaded it, it got pushed to her kindle so she started reading it.)

As a mentor, leadership coach, entrepreneur, senior executive in a non-profit, this is one of my “gifts” for all my staff (along with a good notebook to take notes) to help them unlearn a number of unhelpful habits- and replace them with the attributes that guarantee excellence and a fun culture!“Modern” school teaches to a test and doesn’t really prepare 20-somethings to engage in the real modern world. The lessons and stories are a challenge to the “leaders” to help break your “staff” out of the rut. As the “staff”— expect from your leaders a safe/survivable place to fail and learn. If they don’t, give yourself permission (a lesson in the book) to create one! There are so many stories my teams have collected... their versions of lemonade into helicopters (a story about how being kind in grocery store by helping a foreign-born person make frozen lemonade leads to a helicopter tour of their home country). This book is a collection of lessons, if adopted (or encouraged) early in a career are truly difference makers to a life well lived and to an organization. The biggest lesson is iterative, survivable failure is the path to success. So few students these days experience failure. So much pressure to conform and avoid failure and rejection that they are not really able to innovate and constructively disagree. This book is good for those starting out and for those leaders who want to create an open, questioning atmosphere where the focus is on what is right, rather than who is right. My other recommendations in this theme (getting people to get the right stuff done by seeing the real problem) are “Adapt” by Tim Hartford (similar issue from an economists point of view) and “A Message to Garcia” by Elbert Hubbard.

Well, I finished it this morning. Reading this book gave me a great journey to gradually approach my life goals. As the author wrote, many stories of the book underscore the idea that boundless possibilities result from extracting yourself from your comfort zone and being willing to fail. The book's title attracted me at first sight because I am 20 and if I read this book, I will acknowledge fabulous experiences that I never know before. Besides, I WISH I KNEW WHEN I WAS 20 contains a bunch of meaningful stories, including success stories and failure stories. However, this book is for everyone, not especially for 20-year-olds. I highly recommend it to someone who lacks of their confidence and creativeness in their own life. Shortly, my favorite thing I learned from the book is seizing every opportunity to make you fabulous. Now, it is your turn to read this book in order to make sure that you do miss a chance to find your position in the world.

As a career coach and entrepreneur myself, I'm always looking for new perspectives on how to do my business better. One of the biggest problems my clients have is expanding their vision of the possible, whether that's within a "traditional" career or starting up a business. Seelig's book is excellent at providing exercises (and sample solutions) that help you see you probably aren't being all that creative in trying to solve your toughest problems and how you can do better. Not only have I used some of the ideas in this book to help my clients, I'm using them myself. I've already recommended this book a dozen times, and bought it as a gift for all my graduating family members. This book will change your perspective of what's possible and (hopefully) help you find the courage to pursue work you love. I highly recommend it.

This book was a gift to my Grandson, a high school senior, with high ambitions in college. The purpose was to expose him to new ideas to address challenges of life, school, and career. He loved the book.

I haven't complete the book yet only on chapter 6 this book is a must read before you are 20 and before you go to college this book about taking initiative to becoming great of your failure and making opportunity instead of waiting for it to come to you

Bought this twice and gave as 20th birthday gift for college boys away from home! Both loved the book. Good price.

A fantastic book for everyone aspiring to "make a dent" in their personal and professional lives. If you've listened to any of the Stanford Technology Ventures (STVP) podcasts, you will recognize many of the same themes and lessons (if you're not familiar with the podcasts, you owe it to yourself to go to iTunes and subscribe right now - seriously). Tina Seelig synthesizes much of her own personal experiences with many of the insights that dozens of speakers have shared with the audience in a very easy to read and accessible format. If you're curious, you can find Dr. Seelig's own presentation on the STVP podcast, in which she discusses some of the top lessons she took away from writing this book. Check that out, and then do yourself a favor and pick up this book. Definitely a great gift as well.
