I don't know, but this story just didn't make it past 'foul ball' territory for me. When Ms. Taylor writes about Russians, she can knock 'em out of the park! However, when she writes past them, she appears to lose focus all around. In this story, I was happiest to read more about Alexei Rustanov than I was the main characters! All the story's important points were there: Gus' love for Cera, how they met, why Gus never strayed from his feelings, both family's development, etc. But, the blindfold routine? What??????? If this was just an experiment into something different for a theme, then I guess it's okay. I just hope we don't see more of it in future novels. Ms. Taylor, I love your style, and to your credit, you're an intense writer. You're also still one of my favorites. So, I'm looking forward to what you do best in your future writing. After all, we've got plenty of states to explore in your 50 Loving States series.
Ok, this situation started out really weird. He pays her to be his for the summer. And she agrees. Smh.Definitely spoilers below.But the deep emotional stuff and their past makes it a more compelling story.He just went about it the wrong way. I understand that he hand a rough childhood but how he didn't even consider how basically forcing her into a place where she had no choice but to take his money in exchange for sex would make her feel like a whore at some point is beyond me.I like how dedicated Cera is to her autistic sister. But I don't understand how she was ok with this situation. I don't get it. It just seems weird to me that she would accept his offer.Other than the strangeness of the situation and how controlling and obsessed Gus is, the book is very hot! Wow! Very smoking hot. But weird situation. And he really really really needed to learn that you can't buy people like that. Not everyone is out for money. Sometimes you just need to be honest.
This story would have received a higher rating but had multiple grammatical and editing errors. Lacey Winters and daughter Sparkle live a life on the run but a one night stand with Tatsuro Nakamura, a Japanese business man, tosses a wrinkle into this plan. The relationship between the two autistic children, Kenji and Sparkles is achingly sweet and provides a small peek as to life with Asperger's is like. Despite the fact that ancillary characters are not fully developed, Theodora Taylor's books are enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of her stories with interwoven characters and adventures.
It really hard for me to give anything TT writes a bad review. I think most of her readers are people who knows what she can do and have no problem 1-clicking a book from her. That being said, I do agree with some of the other reviews. To me the story did a little more meat too it, I would have like a little more time in the past so I could understand why Gus was sooooo obsessed with her. Although I do like the idea of blindfolds and such, I just find it hard to believe a woman would go along with this, no matter how desperate she is for money. Then it seems like it was resolved to quickly as well. I feel like Gus could have returned and explained his story and the heroine would have given him a second chance. She knew who her father turned out to be and I don't think she would have held it against him. Truthfully I think if it was any other author it probably would have gotten 3 out of 5 stars but because its TT I can't bear to give it that.
OKAY, first off I own all Theodora books so imagine my shock when I paid 5.00 for a book that stops at 47 percent, and then toa book I own, so the story was not 165 pages! Hmmmmm, anyway the short story was good, and really complete, but I tell you I will watch out for those dual books especially if I read them already. But in all seriousness I did like His for the Summer!
His For the Summer: 50 Loving States, Florida is a very good and sensual interracial romance novel that earned a rating of four stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about a thirty year old African-American woman working hard to provide for her sister who has autism. A man from her past made her an offer she couldn't refuse that led her to fall in love with her mysterious benefactor. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading very good interracial romance novels.
Gus can be my heat in the summer and my solstice in the winter. He is a force to be reckoned with when he has time to originate his course of action for his ultimate prize (Cera). Cera is the epitome of a strong woman surviving despite the hand she was dealt in life. Cera does what she has and be ------if she will let anyone judge her on the way she sees fit. This book demands you find your Gus (girls) and settle for nothing less than a Cera (guys) in your life.
I have been a fan of Theodora Taylor's since I read my first book my her. This is Gus and Cera's story. They met fifteen years earlier and drifted apart when bad circumstances affected both off their lives. Gus fell in love with Cera at first sight. I am not normally a fan of stalkers but i understood why Gus had to do it, i just felt Cera gave in to easliy for my taste but I am glad she did.. It was nice to catch up with the Benton men again. I enjoyed reading this book.
