Excellent guide - used it constantly on our trip to Sri Lanka. We went to 4 regions of the country and each of the chapters in the guide that we relied on were very good. In fact, the reviews of Kandy in the guide were very reliable to the point that we stopped looking things up on our tablet when we had wifi. We stopped looking for wifi and had a much better experience for it.
This is a great, well-organized guide book with lots of practical information, tips and maps . Unlike many other Sri Lanka guides and resources that focus either on luxury or budget accommodations and itineraries, this book gives a variety of options from "shoestring" to "exclusive," so you can mix and match, which is why I chose this book over others.
Although dauntingly thick, this guide is well worth the weight for its dedication to detail. It goes far beyond any other guides in this respect; indeed my friend and I had some very interesting off-the-beaten-track adventures by following some of Philip's suggestions. The descriptions of a wide range of hotels is really helpful for planning an independent trip and the wildlife section, with abundant, well-chosen photos is very useful for identifying the most common animals a visitor is likely to encounter.
