Alison is the author of A History Lover's Guide to Washington, D.C.: Designed for Democracy published by The History Press in May 2014. She has a BA from the College of William & Mary and an MA in history from the University of Michigan. She is the widow of Donald Robert Fortier and the mother of Graham and Merrill Fortier.

I've lived in New York for five years and this was a page turner because it completely opened up my eyes to the things around me that I never noticed. The author has a great style and the descriptions in the book are perfect for someone looking to get an in depth look at places and landmarks that they never new existed. Highly recommended!
Great book. Gives history of the areas in New York City, then gives a list of the various places or buildings that you can see or tour (with links to their website if available). I was born in NYC and I learned about a lot of interesting places to visit/tour.
I bought this book in anticipation of a visit to NYC. It gave me more background on places and some good suggestions for things to visit outside the tourist spots (although it has info on plenty of those too).
I like the format as an ebook, with the hot links right in the book.Nice history of the locations I plan to visit.
Even for seasoned New Yorkers a great reference.
Easy to follow format for a complete History of Where, What, When and How New York City became the marvel it is today.
